How to Politely Ask for Contributions
- Tell Your Story: Share your journey towards buying a home and how a down payment gift would help.
- Be Transparent: Explain that you’re registering for a house fund to help with the down payment, renovations, or other home-related expenses for your new life together.
- Provide Options: Offer a variety of contribution amounts or allow guests to choose a specific amount.
- Express Gratitude: Thank guests for their generosity and support in advance.
Using Wedding Gifts for Down Payments
- FHA, VA, and USDA Loans: These loan types often allow wedding gifts to be used for purchase funds, but ensure you follow the documentation process (e.g., providing a copy of the marriage license and bank statements).
- “Bona Fide Gift”: The gift must be a genuine gift, not a loan that requires repayment.
- Gift Letter: In some cases, a gift letter from the donor may be required to confirm the gift.
Once you are approaching your goal amount, contact me to get started on your new home buying process. I can connect you with a lender or advise you about down payment assistant programs available to help get you to the finish line.
